about

"Labyrinth" and "Trance" are albums of original music commissioned by a holistic training and health institute as ambient new age music for healing sessions, educational classrooms, massage, Reiki, acupuncture, etc.

I am posting the albums exactly as they were intended to be experienced. Tracks with the same name are in fact the same music. This was done intentionally, as repetition is conducive to meditation, contemplation, and trance work.

If you download the entire album, you will get the music complete, as it was intended. However, feel free to download just the tracks you want, and create your own playlist.

Each album needed to be a particular length, but they needed to stay within the same style and scope. They were intended to serve as background ambience, in addition to being listened as music.

Play at moderate volume.

"Labyrinth" evokes in music the full experience of walking the Labyrinth, a walking-meditation practice dating back many centuries. As an experienced Labyrinth walker myself, I composed music that for me reflects the stages of the journey—which after all are the journey of life.

The Labyrinth may take a short time to walk, or many hours, depending on what pace an individual feels moved to walk. There are places where you will feel stuck; moving forward through blocks can take time. On other walks, you may walk to celebrate and praise, and mov along briskly.

It is a paradox of the Labyrinth that when you first enter, you get a close glimpse of the center, your eventual goal—but then you move past and wander in many directions. You have not lost your way. Then, when you feel like you are farthest away from the center, in fact you are near the end of the journey, and will arrive very soon.

The tracks on "Labyrinth" reflect stages of the journey, marked by bells at places of threshold and turning. The central, longest track is itself an image of the entire journey. Once we get to the center, we stay awhile. Then, we reverse course, and walk out, renewed.

This journey to the center, and the return, is reflected in the album track layout by repeating two tracks heard early on the album, heard again as we retrace our steps back to the entrance.
